Black Gold Match Results

The evening started off with a great match between Tima Karginov and Nick Stefanadis. This battle for 119 showed a lot of great shots by Nick, but in the end Tima's defense proved to be too tough. We will see a lot of these two sophomores in the future.

The battle for 130 featured a couple sophomores as well. Micah Barfield and Carlton Lewis battled for three period before the match was cut short due to penalties by Carlton.

At 160 pounds saw returning state runner up Max Redfoot pick up a first period tech fall over freshman Ricardo Espinoza. Expect to see Max at the top of the podium at the end of his senior campaign.

Matt Huge won in quick order over newcomer Adam Hamilton. The young sophomore put up a good fight against the senior captain, however Matt showed everyone why he is a three year starter at 189 pounds.

The next match of the night featured two returning starters from the 09-10 season. While this was not for a starting spot, Roscoe Burnett will be at 152 and Bobby Nelson will be at 171, this matched lived up to the hype. The two juniors battled back and forth for two and a half periods when Roscoe secured the go ahead take down late in the third period.

The 103 pound wrestle off featured returning starter Aaron Feinberg facing off against sophomore Joe Frederick. Aaron controlled the match early and earned a fall against the hard working sophomore in the end. Aaron, a junior, has worked hard this summer and is looking to make a name for himself at 103 this season.

In an all Freshman wrestle off, Stephen Dreher picked up a pin over his former middle school teammate Tommy Morrison. Stephen is looking to show the Carolina 6 conference this season why he was the OPAC MOW last season.

Senior Ryan Mumper took some time out of his busy cross country schedule to show the crowd why he is our only four year starter this season. Ryan faced a very promising freshman David Hicks. In the end, Ryan's double legs and whips were too much for the young freshman.

In another exhibition match, Junior Peter Dreher faced off against Micah Barfield. The returning state qualifier made quick work of the sophomore starter by picking up a first period tech fall.

Despite the 0-2 quadruple over time score, the battle for 140 was the match of the night. Sophomores Joe Carter and Ethan Martin battled for eight minutes and 29 seconds of scoreless action before Joe Carter scored a reversal with one second left in the final overtime period. Expect to see both of these guys on the mat the season as they will be splitting time at the 140 pound weight class.

Chirst Mowandza, senior, faced off against the newcomer junior Nick Amodei. Christ took control of the match early and wowed the fans with his mixer and pin of the first year wrestler.

The next three matches of the evening were exhibiting matches. The first featuring Max Redfoot vs. Roscoe Burnett and the second was sophomore Andrew Hotong vs junior newcomer Nuri Cengic. Max and Andrew picked up first period pins in their matches. In the third exhibition, Matt Huge lost a close match to the Sophomore starter at 215, Alex Colson. This barn burner was won by Alex with a take down at the end of the third period.
